At the young age of 17 he was lucky enough to sign his first contract with Santos in Brazil. After that there was no looking back for him. He went ahead to sign 24 more contracts. However, this was not to continue when his mother was kidnapped by armed gunman and released later unharmed after a huge ransom was extracted from the family.
